THE c.in.e., TODAY

The aim of the C.IN.E. is to fill a gap in the current creation scenario in the Balearic Islands. Our main missions are the internationalization of the Balearic companies, helping them to learn how to network and cooperate beyond our islands and promoving research and dissemination projects of local artists. Nevertheless, our most visible and developed project is our Artistic Residencies Programme.

The project was conceived in 2016 with the aim of hosting, provoking and promoting artistic processes. Nowadays, the Centre offers creative residencies for taking-risk companies, artists, groups or performing arts researchers who engage in innovative creations, mixing languages and collective contemporary creation. In the main space (an old movie cinema), projects requiring height, with special attention to circus, are prioritized.

SPACE RENTAL

Thanks to its technical/aesthetic characteristics, the different spaces of the Performing Art Research Centre in Sineu is suitable for photo shootings, film shoots, events that require a special atmosphere, parties, etc.

That is why the space is available for rental for advertising and marketing agencies, photographers or event organizers who want to rent a space for a specific job.

HISTory

The construction of the cinema of Sineu dates back to 1935, in the space occupied by an old cellar. It is a 3 floors building and a basement. Access is made through reinforced concrete portico supported by two Doric columns to imitation of the ancient Greek temples. The neoclassical facade has a rationalist style and is protected as a Cultural Heritage Site (BIC).

Until 1982, uninterrupted films were screened, dances were organized and varietés performances were performed. Then it became the studio of an artist from Sineu and, later, it was turnet intoone of the most avant-garde party halls of Mallorca in the late 80's, Nyet. But in 1993 the building was destroyed by a fire.

In 2008, the building was acquired by the production company Res de Res i En Blanc, led by Marta Barceló and Biel Jordà. A new era would begin, thanks to the impulse of the Alcem el CINE association, which, after rehabilitating space, was able to reopen it as a Performing Arts creation center. It was inaugurated on February 26, 2016.

Currently, 331 square meters are built in total, with a large 16-meter-deep open room.
